5. Kindred And Umbrella Organisations

The Association of Professional Engineers recognises a number of other organisations which have major roles in engineering activities and the development of engineering in Trinidad and Tobago. These are referred to as Kindred Organisations. In addition there are a number of umbrella organisations to which APETT belongs.

5.1 Umbrella Organizations

Caribbean Council of Engineering Organizations (CCEO ) APETT is a founding constituent member of the Caribbean Council of Engineering Organisations which was established in 1969. The objectives of CCEO include the establishment of professional engineering organisations where they do not already exist in the Caribbean region, and the promotion and protection of the interests of member organisations.

Joint Consultative Council for the Construction Industry (JCC) This umbrella Organisation embraces a number of organisations with special interest in the construction industry. APETT is a founding member of this organization.

Trinidad and Tobago Group of Professional Associations (TTGPA) The Group of Professional Associations exists to coordinate the activities of the member Associations in the common interest of these Associations. Chief among these is the operation and ongoing development of the Professional Centre.

5.2 Kindred Organisations

The main subgroup of these organisations comprises those involved in the construction industry. These include

Trinidad and Tobago Contractors Association
Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Architects
The Quantity Surveyors Society of Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago Society of Planners

but also extends to some which are not specifically involved in construction such as

Association of Consulting Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago
The Society of Petroleum Engineers

In addition to those recognised as Kindred Organisations, APETT is interested in maintaining good relations with other professional organisations, and occasionally engages in joint activities with these organisations.

APETT has developed relations with foreign engineering organisations and has entered into agreements with some of these in relation to joint membership and other matters of common interest.
