4. Programme Of Activities

The Association's annual calendar comprises a number of general activities plus the divisional activities. The regular programme includes the following activities:

Annual Technical Conference This programme was started in 1987 with a conference on Quality Control. The conference theme is usually a broad one, designed to be of interest to members in all engineering disciplines. The duration is normally three days. Typically about thirty reviewed papers are presented, and published as Proceedings of the Association.

Banquet The Association holds a banquet and awards ceremony towards the end of the Council's term of office. The Association uses this opportunity to honour engineers for excellence and for service to the Profession and the Association. This is the premier social event of the Association and is usually well-attended. Following the Presidential Address, there is a ceremonial handing over of the Chain of Office from the outgoing to the incoming President.

Family Day This is usually held at the end of the first quarter during the dry season. The main event is an inter-divisional windball cricket match, and lots of activities are planned for the young ones. This event provides an opportunity for members and their families to meet in a relaxed and informal social setting.

Divisional Activities The divisional activities usually comprise lectures, workshops, panel discussions, seminars and site visits. Each Division organises its own programme based on the interests of its members, and careful coordination is carried out to minimise conflict between activities of the Divisions and of Council. Notices of these activities are sent to members of the respective Divisions and are posted in PEN. Some events are advertised in the daily newspapers. Most of these activities are open at no charge to members and non-members alike. On average there are two or three divisional activities each month, so that there is always something of interest for members.
